2025 Ault Park Race Series Rider Input
Potential changes to Ault Park Masters 60+ Scoring
Last year’s Masters category was very well received. Attendance in that category was second only to the 40k.
40k: 24.8 riders weekly
Masters 20k: 20.8 riders weekly (8.6 were 60+)
Cat IV 20k: 15.2 riders weekly
Only three 60+ riders scored sprint points. Only one of those riders scored more than one time.
With that in mind we’re looking to grow the 60+ field by making it more competitive within the Masters 20k. We hope to do this with a change to the scoring system. We also want riders to have a better idea of who they are racing against so we are planning on having different colored bibs for the two groups.
We want the new system to have a way for 60+ riders to score points other than just by showing up for the one weekly point. Please understand that picking more than four riders per sprint, or picking two groups of riders separately are not viable options.
Here are two possible 60+ scoring plans:
No Sprint Points
The two groups race together, but 60+ riders are not eligible for sprint points. After the lap twenty sprint the 50+ riders would stop racing and exit the course while the 60+ riders would do an additional two laps. At the end of the two laps all riders would be scored just as they would be in a regular criterium with finish points assigned to each rider and tallied at the end of the season.
Sprint Points Also Count
Same plan as above, but 60+ riders are eligible to score points on sprint laps just as they were last year. Those points would be added into their final sprint points.
In both these scenarios your position relative to the rest of the field matters. If you are lapped at any time, you will be scored behind everyone who is a lap up you in the final sprint. If you take a lap on the field at any time during the race, and hold that advantage at the end of the 60+ race you will be scored ahead of any riders you are a lap up on.
The entire finish will be video recorded and likely scored offsite as we proceed with the rest of the racing for the night. Finish points will be determined by the number of nightly finishers on lap 22. The winner of lap 22 will receive a one-point bonus. If there are ten 60+ finishers on the night then first place would receive 11 points and second would receive 9 etc.
Feedback closes on February 3rd, 2025.
